New Xida-CS Coilovers, Miata Challenge Round 1, BBK Group Buy Over

Sorry to say, group buy pricing on the Trackspeed Engineering 11.75" Front Big Brake Kit (seen in the update previous to this) is now over. The kit is now available at retail price and will be added to our website for purchasing shortly.

Miata Challenge this last weekend was a success and we happily took home 1st place in unlimited class despite the bad weather. Our new suspension for the two shop cars had just arrived at 949 Racing and we were eager to get it on and test it out.

After picking it up on Saturday night and returning to the shop just before midnight, it took an all nighter to get both our black turbocharged race car and the red rental car prepped and to Buttonwillow for Sunday. Andrew Kidd piloted the black race car to a win in unlimited class while Emilio at 949 Racing stomped all over some S2000s and BMWs in the wet in our rental race car with it's amazing combination of grip and reliable, naturally aspirated power.

Trackspeed Engineering 11.75" Front Big Brake Kit

Trackspeed is exploring a limited production run on a brake caliper bracket to mount a Wilwood Dynalite/Dynapro/Dynapro6 onto a very inexpensive Wilwood 11.75"x.810" 2-piece brake rotor. The 11.75 rotor offers increased surface area over the popular 11" rotor, as well as significantly reduced rotor replacement costs. 11" replacement outer rings generally cost anywhere from $90 to $170 to replace, but you can obtain a Wilwood 11.75x.810 iron friction ring for $31 from Summit Racing. (Directional friction rings are also available for ~$130.)

We have been very pleased with the performance of our current 11" BBK (which uses inexpensive Corrado 11" rotors) for most applications (including our HPDE Rental Car), but for extreme forced-induction road race applications the thermal capacity of the 11" rotors has come up a little short. I have seen cracked, grooved, and warped rotors on my own car this year and poor brake pad life in general, and we have seen other customers with the same problems.

We are pleased to announce that we have enough interest to move forward with our group buy. These prices are good through January 31st. A non-refundable 25% deposit is due before then to reserve this pricing - the remainder will be due before your items ship.

Send deposits/payments via Paypal to info at trackspeed engineering dot com. You can also email me with questions, or send them to me via PM.

Exciting new things are happening at Trackspeed Engineering.

First of all, our new 76mm dual row triple pass cross flow radiator is now available.
This radiator has been designed and tested to keep Miatas cool, regardless of the application. Whether it's a Spec Miata in a draft or a monster-power turbo car with a monster-sized intercooler blocking radiator flow, this radiator has been tested and proven to maintain safe cooling temps in all conditions.

Order yours today!

We also scored a 99 Miata for a steal, and are using it for future product development.

A sneak peak of what this car may be getting in the not-so-distant future.

First V8 build completed & Spec Miata repair

The first Trackspeed Engineering LSx swapped Miata departed for Texas hours after we completed the build on Friday and made it there successfully with no issues!

He took off so soon after we completed the build that we weren't even able to get any pictures/video of it complete with the exception of this one video:

In other news, Nick's Spec Miata was wrecked last race only a couple of laps after a fantastic start (qualified 14th of 56 and was in 6th by turn 2). When coming around turn 11 at Thunderhill, Nick found Tommy O spinning directly in front of him and in an attempt to swerve and avoid Tommy, Nick ended up sliding into him. After a quick 3 hour scramble, Nick had gone to impound, swapped out the rear subframe and entire passenger rear suspension, and dropped the car off to get an alignment. For the second race of the weekend, Nick qualified 8th but due to SCCA starting the race a couple minutes early, did not make it to grid on time and had to start dead last (47th). In only four laps, Nick moved up twenty positions to a position of 27th during the 5th lap where he was hit in the passenger rear entering turn 9 and spun. The right rear tire was then contacting the body so he had to come in early and not finish the race. The car is essentially totaled, so we will be swapping everything over to a new tub in the coming weeks.

Busy weekend

We had a very busy weekend, starting with driving 9 hours round trip to pick up a replacement 6 speed transmission for our turbocharged time trials car and a Ford 8.8 differential for another upcoming build. Additionally, our spec miata got a new differential after blowing up its old one a couple of weekends ago and a new transmission.
We attended and MX5 Miata Fest on Saturday; it was great talking with all of you who stopped by our booth to say hello. We had our products there on display as well as our turbocharged time trials car.

Sunday was another day of work. Swapped the new 6 speed into our time trials car and pulled some of the oil out of the old transmission to get analyzed to see if it can tell us anything about our 4th gear loss. We will also be opening the case to see if we can determine any cause for the failure.
After swapping transmissions, we got back to work on the 2002 SE car that is getting the LS2 swapped in. After a lot of work, at the end of the day the motor was in!

Just got back from a weekend at Laguna Seca. Weather was great, nice and cool in the mornings and mid 70s in the afternoon.
Our turbocharged time trials car took home top honors in Miata Challenge Unlimited once again, making it two in a row. My 1:36.4 bested Gordon Jennings’ 1:38.6 in his Rotrex machine. Sunday saw another couple of tenths come off that time, with a weekend best of 1:36.242 in the 2nd Sunday session. The car responded very well to the new Hankook C71s that went on for the weekend, dropping over 1.5 seconds from our previous best lap set back in April at MRLS. Unfortunately, we lost the gearbox in the last session, broke 4th under power. Unknown mileage 6-speed when I got it, I put 20,000 street miles and 18 months of track days, 12 of which were at 270whp or more. Time to open it up and R&D a solution.
Our new rental car saw its debut this weekend as well, serving double driver duty on both days, and it performed outstandingly well for its first outing. The package is extremely simple, using a 1990 chassis with a TC Designs half cage, OMP racing seat and Willans 6-point belts. Under the hood is a factory stock 2001 longblock, with a full Racing Beat exhaust (header, cat, and catback) and an AEM EMS standalone controlling everything, including the VVT system. Cooling duties are easily handled by our in-house dual-core triple-pass radiator, keeping the car cool all weekend long. The car is running 225/45 Nitto NT-01s mounted on 15x9 949Racing 6ULs, the preferred combination of grip and longevity, and brakes are stock 1.6 in the rear and our Wilwood BBK in the front, using Carbotech XP12 pads front and rear. Nick piloted the car to a 1:46.6 on Sunday, besting his personal record from his Spec Miata by over half a second. We are thrilled that the car is so fast and reliable directly out of the box, but we have plans to make it a little faster. The motor will be getting a replacement intake manifold and a set of cams, which should wake the powerplant up quite a bit. The car will retain a full interior, including a radio, cruise control, and air conditioning, to ensure that it’s as comfortable to drive to the track as it is fun to drive at the track.
Next weekend we will be at Mazfest in Irvine, so come say hi and check out some of our latest products.
